Choosing boot sizes for chest and hip waders
Check socks, foot movement, torso and leg fit together without inventing centimetre dimensions from an EU size.
Quick answer
Try boot sizes with the socks used for the activity. A suitable boot size does not alone establish upper-leg or torso fit. Footwear and upper garment fit are separate checks.
Assess the foot with the actual socks
Check foot placement, heel movement and walking fit with the normal socks. Trying thin socks and switching thickness in use changes the result. Do not derive unpublished internal length or width from the stated boot size.
Assess the uppers during movement
For chest waders, assess torso and straps; for hip waders, assess leg circumference and attachments. Observe tension at the connection while sitting or bending the knees. If the boots fit but the uppers do not, describe the problem rather than simply requesting one size larger.
- Include socks and underlayers in the fitting record.
- Confirm model code and boot size together.
